The Legend of Tangkuban Perahu

Orientation :

Once upon a time, in West Java, there lived a beautiful woman named Dayang Sumbi. She lived with her son, Sangkuriang, and a loyal dog named Tumang. One day, Dayang Sumbi asked Sangkuriang to hunt in the forest.

Complication (Conflict)

One day, Sangkuriang accidentally killed Tumang. Dayang Sumbi became very angry and sent Sangkuriang away.

Many years later, Sangkuriang returned as a handsome young man. He met Dayang Sumbi, but neither of them recognized each other at first. Sangkuriang fell in love with Dayang Sumbi and wanted to marry her.

However, Dayang Sumbi recognized the scar on Sangkuriang's head and realized that he was her son. To stop the marriage, she asked him to build a lake and a huge boat in one night before sunrise.

Resolution

Sangkuriang worked hard and received help from supernatural beings. He almost finished his task before sunrise.

Then, Dayang Sumbi asked the villagers to make it look like morning. Sangkuriang thought that the sun was rising and that he had failed.

Finally, Sangkuriang became very angry and kicked the boat. The boat turned upside down and became Mount Tangkuban Perahu.
